Terms & Privacy
Last updated: August 2026
Price of Petrol ("we", "us", "our") operates a WhatsApp-based fuel price finder service accessible at priceofpetrol.com. This page covers our terms of use and explains what personal data we process, why, and your rights under UK GDPR.
1. Who we are
Price of Petrol is operated by Colina Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 15648787). If you have any questions about this page, please contact us at the address below.
2. Terms of use
By using Price of Petrol (via WhatsApp or the website), you agree to the following:
- Pricing — Price of Petrol has a free tier and a paid Premium tier (£4.99/month). Both are provided without guarantee of availability or continuity.
- UK only — The service covers UK fuel stations only and is intended for use in the United Kingdom.
- Guidance only — Fuel prices are sourced from the UK government's mandatory reporting scheme and updated regularly, but may not reflect real-time prices at every station. Always confirm the price at the pump.
- No liability — We accept no liability for decisions made based on the information provided, including journeys made to fuel stations or any losses arising from inaccurate pricing data.
- Acceptable use — You may not use the service for commercial data scraping, automated querying, or any purpose other than finding fuel prices for personal or business use.
- Availability — We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time without notice.
3. What data we process
When you use the WhatsApp service, we collect and store the following personal data:
- Your WhatsApp phone number — provided automatically by WhatsApp when you message us. We store this persistently so we can identify you as a returning user and remember your preferences.
- Your consent record — we store the date and time you replied AGREE to our Terms & Privacy, as evidence of your consent to use the service.
- Your fuel type preference — if you set a preference (e.g. "Diesel"), we store it against your phone number so it persists between sessions.
- Your maps app preference — if you set a preferred maps app (Google Maps, Apple Maps, or Waze), we store it against your phone number so station links open in your chosen app.
- Your location — only when you provide it during a search, either by sharing your location pin or by typing a postcode or place name. Used solely to find nearby fuel stations or search along a route. We do not store your location after the query is complete.
- Anonymised query logs — when you perform a search, we log the approximate area (rounded to 2 decimal places of latitude/longitude, roughly a 1km square), fuel type, and results returned. This is not linked back to your phone number.
- Your subscription status and journey search credits — if you upgrade to Premium or receive referral credits, we store your subscription status and remaining journey search credits against your phone number to operate the service correctly.
We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personal data.
Additionally, if you send a message the service does not recognise, we log your phone number and the message text. This is used solely to identify user issues and improve the service. These logs are retained for 90 days and then deleted.
4. How we use your data
We use your data only to provide and improve the service:
- Your phone number and fuel preference are used to personalise your experience — returning the right fuel type without you needing to specify it each time.
- Your consent record is kept for legal compliance purposes.
- Your location (when provided as a pin, postcode, or place name) is used to query our fuel station database in real time and is not retained after the query.
- Anonymised query logs are used to understand which areas are most searched and to improve the service. They cannot be used to identify you.
- Your subscription status and journey search credits are used to gate access to journey search features and process Premium payments.
- If you message us but do not complete the sign-up process, we may send you up to three reminder messages via WhatsApp (within 24 hours, at 3 days, and at 10 days) to help you get started. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP.
- If you have agreed to terms but haven't used the service for a period of time, we may send you an occasional re-engagement message (no more than once every 30 days) to let you know your account is still active. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP.
- If you are on our free plan, we will send you a message when your monthly journey search allowance resets.
- We do not use your data for third-party marketing, advertising, or profiling, and we do not sell it to third parties.
5. Legal basis
We process your personal data on the basis of consent (Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR). By replying AGREE when you first message us, you explicitly consent to us storing your phone number, consent record, and fuel preference for the purpose of operating the service. You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us — see section 11.
6. Data sharing
We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for their own purposes. We use the following processors to operate the service:
- Meta Platforms (WhatsApp Cloud API) — routes messages between you and us. Subject to Meta's own privacy policy.
- Vercel Inc. — hosts the application. Requests pass through Vercel's infrastructure.
- Supabase Inc. — hosts the fuel station database and user records. Your location coordinates are used to query this database but are not stored there.
- Google LLC (Google Maps Platform) — used to geocode postcodes and place names, calculate routes, and compute drive times. Your location coordinates and destination are transmitted to Google for this purpose. Subject to Google's own privacy policy.
- Stripe, Inc. — handles payment processing for Premium subscriptions. Subject to Stripe's own privacy policy.
All processors are subject to appropriate data processing agreements.
7. Data retention
We retain different data for different periods:
- Your phone number, consent record, and fuel preference — retained for as long as you use the service, or until you request deletion. If you have not used the service for 24 months, we will delete your record.
- Your location — not stored at all. Used only to process your query in real time.
- Anonymised query logs — retained indefinitely as they contain no personal data.
- Unrecognised message logs — your phone number and message text are retained for 90 days and then deleted.
- Subscription and payment data — your subscription status and journey search credits are retained for as long as your account is active, or until you request deletion. Payment transaction records are handled by Stripe and subject to their retention policies.
8. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Rectification of inaccurate data
- Erasure of your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Restriction of processing
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Portability of your data in a machine-readable format
Because we hold very little data and nothing persistently, most of these rights are satisfied by the design of the service. To exercise any right, contact us using the details below.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
9. Cookies and tracking
The priceofpetrol.com website uses a lightweight, privacy-friendly analytics system to help us understand how people use the site. When you visit a page or click a WhatsApp link, we record the page visited, the event type (page view or link click), and your HTTP referrer (the page you came from, if any). We do not use cookies, and we do not load any third-party analytics scripts. All data is stored on our own servers and is used only to improve the service. We do not store your IP address or any identifier that could be used to track you across sessions.
10. Children
This service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly process personal data from children.
11. Data deletion requests
You have the right to request deletion of your personal data at any time. To do so, email hello@colina.io with the subject line "Data Deletion Request" and include the WhatsApp phone number you used to contact us. We will delete your phone number, consent record, and fuel preference from our database and confirm within 30 days. Note that anonymised query logs do not contain your phone number and cannot be individually deleted.
Requesting deletion also constitutes withdrawal of your consent to use the service. You are welcome to restart the service at any time by messaging us again.
12. Changes to this page
We may update these terms and privacy details from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. Material changes will be noted on the homepage.
