How often are fuel prices updated?

Fuel retailers are legally required to report any price change to the government's Fuel Finder scheme within 30 minutes. We refresh our database from that data every hour, so prices are never more than 90 minutes old.

Is it really free?

Nearby search — finding the cheapest stations close to your current location — is completely free with no limits. Journey search includes 2 free searches when you first start, then 3 free journey searches every month after that. You can earn 3 more free searches for every friend you invite — reply REFER in WhatsApp to get your link. If you need more, Premium is £4.99/month for unlimited journey searches.

Do I need to download an app?

No. Everything happens inside WhatsApp, which you already have. There's nothing to install, no account to create, and no password to remember.

What's the difference between nearby and journey search?

Nearby search finds the cheapest stations within a few miles of where you are right now — great for a quick fill-up. Journey search finds cheap stations along your route, so you can plan ahead and stop at the cheapest point on your way to a destination.

Which fuel types are supported?

E10 petrol, E5 premium petrol, standard diesel (B7), and premium diesel. You can switch between them at any time by replying PETROL, E5, DIESEL, or PREMIUM DIESEL.

How does "best value" work?

Cheapest isn't always best if the station is a mile off your route. Our best value calculation factors in the cost of the detour — based on current fuel prices per mile — so you can see whether the saving is actually worth the extra driving.

Is my location stored?

No. We record an approximate grid location (rounded to about 1km) for anonymous analytics, but never your precise coordinates, and never linked to your phone number. See our privacy policy for full details.

Who runs Price of Petrol?

It's built and run by Colina Limited, a small UK software company. We have no commercial relationship with any fuel retailer — we're paid by users, not by stations, so our results are always independent.
